Thinking positively is crucial for our mental health and overall well-being. However, it’s not always easy to change the way our brains have been wired to think. Negativity and pessimism can often feel like second nature to us, but with practice, we can retrain our brains to think positively. Here are three simple ways to do so:
1. Practice Gratitude:
One of the simplest ways to retrain your brain to think positively is by practicing gratitude. Spend a few minutes every day reflecting on the things that you are grateful for. It could be anything from the roof over your head to the people in your life. Make a habit of writing down three things that you are thankful for every day. This practice will help you to focus on the positive aspects of your life and help you to appreciate the good things that you have.
2. Reframe Negative Thoughts:
When you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts, try to reframe them in a positive way. For example, if you think “I’m never going to be able to do this,” reframe it into “I may not be able to do this right now, but with practice, I will improve.” Reframing negative thoughts in a positive way will help to change your mindset and make you feel more optimistic.
3. Surround Yourself with Positive People:
Surrounding yourself with positive people can have a huge impact on the way you think. Negativity is contagious, and being around negative people can make it harder to think positively. Surround yourself with people who inspire you, motivate you, and bring out the best in you. The people you surround yourself with can help reinforce positive thinking patterns and make you feel more optimistic about the future.
Retraining your brain to think positively takes time and effort, but it’s worth it for the improvement in your overall well-being. Positive thinking can improve your mood, boost your self-esteem, and make you more resilient in the face of adversity. By practicing gratitude, reframing negative thoughts, and surrounding yourself with positive people, you can train your brain to focus on the positive aspects of your life and improve your overall well-being.

Great article! Prompts and reminders like these are so needed.
I actively write in a gratitude journal. I think for the midpoint of quarter 2 I will do more intentional reframes of those negative mindsets that tend to creep in.
