They say the early bird catches the worm …but what if you’re not a bird, and the worm is your bed? We’ve all been there. The alarm clock goes off at an ungodly hour, and the only exercise you want to do involves hitting snooze and rolling over. So, why is it so hard to get out of bed at 5am to workout? Let’s take a closer look.
Firstly, it’s important to understand that the body loves routine. If you’re used to sleeping in until the sun is high in the sky, your body will resist any change to that routine. The phrase “I’m not a morning person” exists for a reason – some of us are just wired that way. Secondly, sleep is essential for our physical and mental well-being. We need sufficient sleep to function at our best, and disrupting that sleep can leave us feeling groggy and unproductive.
If you’re still determined to become a morning workout warrior, fear not! It is possible to train yourself to become a morning exerciser. Here are three tips to help you get started:
- Plan ahead: Decide what workout you want to do the night before and lay out everything you need – your clothes, water bottle, gym bag, etc. This eliminates the need for decision-making in the morning and makes it easier to get out the door.
- Ease into it: Starting with a 5am workout might be too big of a leap if you’re used to waking up at 7am. Instead, try gradually waking up earlier each day until you reach your desired wake-up time. This will help your body adjust to the new routine without causing too much disruption to your sleep schedule.
- Create a motivating environment: Make your morning workout routine something to look forward to. Whether it’s a playlist of your favorite songs, a motivating quote on your bathroom mirror, or a pre-workout snack you love, do something to get yourself excited about starting your day with exercise.
Bonus tip: Drag a friend out of bed as well…you can be each other’s accountability buddy!
So, there you have it. Getting out of bed at 5am to workout might be challenging, but it’s not impossible. With a little planning, patience, and motivation, you can become a morning workout warrior – and who knows? You might just start to enjoy it.
The moral of the story…get your ass outta bed and make it happen. 😘🤍🙏
