It’s funny how a simple social media post can make you realize just how much you don’t fit in with the crowd.
I grew up without television, well to be completely accurate, we had a TV but no “programming”. Simply stated, we didn’t have cable because we couldn’t afford it.
So although the freebies, Channels 4 and 5 (I think) were available to the masses, they rarely aired anything of interest for me. Which means music, reading, and writing became my go to pass times.
Who else remembers 12 CDs for a penny through Columbia House? Quite possibly the most amazing discovery of my teen years. My collection was alphabetically organized from ABBA to Zeppelin, with everything in between.
I also attended 16 different schools growing up, so the notion of really “fitting in”, if you will, is pretty much a foreign concept to me. Although, I do recall, as clear as it was yesterday, the time in 7th grade when I was invited to a “popular girl’s” birthday party. I couldn’t believe it. It was a pool party at the Holiday Inn, and I was invited…WTH?
I was never the “popular” or “cool” girl. I didn’t sport the latest Club Monaco sweatshirt, Nike shoes or designer jeans because, we just couldn’t afford it. In all honestly though, I was never really cut out to fit into those terms because guess what? None of that superficial bullshit really matters.

I still spend my evenings (and weekends) reading business development and leadership books, volunteering at my local community centre and contemplating how what I have to offer that can change the world. And you know what, it might be a grandiose desire, but each and every one of us has something to offer that can do the same.
To conclude, I guess the point of my long winded rant is that if you ever feel like you don’t fit in…run with it!!! Chase your passion, and don’t just follow what’s portrayed as the acceptable norm. Challenge it. Always. 😘
