A Busy Parent’s Guide to Keeping it All Together
Considering today’s busy lifestyle, managing all household expectations can often seem like an overwhelming task.
Juggling parenthood, ongoing (seemingly never ending) domestic responsibilities with a demanding corporate career has been challenging even at the best of times. There were often times I had no idea how I was going to accomplish my growing to-do list.
Have you ever felt this way?
The good news, the mind is an extraordinary tool when it comes to planning your achievements and since there is increased psychological research clearly indicating the direct correlation between clutter and its influence on your stress, anxiety and depression, it’s best that we get this sh!t under control.
Here are 5 S.M.A.R.T. Tips to help you manage clutter in your home:
1. Be Specific
So you don’t get overwhelmed, start small and be specific about what you want to accomplish. For example, if you have to open the front hall closet with a sense of apprehension, because you’re not sure what will come flying out at you, perhaps that becomes your first “specific” clutter busting project.
2. Be Mindful
Getting rid of material possessions can be difficult as they often can have sentimental value. However, how many jackets, shoes and purses can one woman own before it’s considered excessive?! (Never mind – don’t answer that.) Select a local charity that can benefit from your gently used clothing and feel good knowing that you are “mindfully” giving new meaning to these items.
3. Be Aligned

Whether on purpose or by accident, we often acquire items that are not inline with our current life goals. The decor that you select for your home should support your intended direction so that you can create an environment that subconsciously nurtures your desires. For example, if you are seeking love, incorporate subtle reminders throughout your home to keep your vibration on that level. Remember, thoughts become things. PS…Now is also a good time to get rid of anything from the ‘ex’ if you’re looking to attract new love. 😉
4. Be Realistic
When you are making your clutter busting ToDo list, break it down into manageable chunks so that you don’t get overwhelmed and take time between your tasks to appreciate the sense of accomplishment.
5. Be Time bound
Procrastination is an easy trap to succumb to. I’m mean who really wants to tackle the junk drawer, storage room, basement, garage – where ever. Out of sight out of mind right? Except, if you’re anything like me, you may not see it, but your inner OCD knows it’s there…lurking in the shadows. Take the time to prioritize your ToDo list and assign an approximate completion time for each task and put it in your calendar. Yup, the one on your phone that pops annoying little reminders at set intervals.
I hope these 5 little tricks help you with getting organized. Let me know what you do when tackling your household chores.
